Submitted by Elena Azadbakht, Chair, Public Relations Committee, Southern Chapter; edited by Jennifer K. Lloyd, AHIP, and Annette Parde-Maass, AHIP

The Southern Chapter of MLA (SC/MLA) will hold its 67th annual meeting in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the Hilton Knoxville Hotel, from October 19–22, 2017. This year’s theme is “Change Is in the Air: Purpose, Passion, Possibilities,” and a program is planned that will feature speakers, continuing education (CE) courses, papers, and posters focusing on the ever-changing nature of medical librarianship and the passion we bring to our work.

This year’s featured speakers and CE course instructors include: M.J. Tooey, AHIP, FMLA, executive director of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland–Baltimore and director of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) Southeastern/Atlantic (SEA) Region; Jill Markgraf, interim director of Libraries, University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire; Margaret Jane Foster, AHIP, associate professor and systematic reviews coordinator at Texas A&M University’s Medical Sciences Library; and Tony Nguyen, AHIP, technology and communications coordinator at the NNLM SEA Region. Sandy Oelschlegel, AHIP, Preston Medical Library, University of Tennessee–Knoxville; Virginia Turner; and Andrea Franks will close the meeting with a “Health Literacy Forum.”

For more information and updates about the SC/MLA’s annual meeting, visit the event website or the SC/MLA blog, Southern Salutations. We hope to see you in Knoxville!
