Are you an MLIS student attending MLA’18 for the first time? Being an MLA student member has a lot of benefits. Here are some must do’s for attending as a student - a few things for your to-do list at the conference:

Do a CE class

All pre-conference Continuing Education classes are only $50 for students! Do sign up early, as CEs fill up pretty fast. Chances are you can do at least one CE that you’re interested in. See all MLA ’18 CE courses.

MLA Job Placement Center and Resume Clinic

Looking for your first librarian job? Stop by the MLA Job Placement Center to see what opportunities are available. You can also sign up to get your resume and cover letter reviewed. You can even sign up for a mock interview. Walk-ins are welcome!

New Member Breakfast

Hopefully, you signed up at registration for the New Member Breakfast on Sunday, May 20. It’s a great way to meet other students, newly minted librarians, as well as to network with more experienced librarians.

Attending Section and Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings

Find out more about topics in librarianship you are interested in and learn how to get more involved in MLA as an organization. With 21 Sections and 27 SIGs, there’s something for everyone.

Network, Network, Network!

Voice your ideas during conference sessions, ask questions in meetings, and chat with librarians when viewing their posters. MLA’18 is the place for making professional development connections, and also lifelong friendships.
