This workshop will discuss steps for designing research projects that require statistical data, using methods of collecting data, using statistical software for analyzing these data, and drawing accurate conclusions once data have been analyzed.

The workshop will include the following:

Presenter

Jin Wu is an emerging technologies librarian at the Norris Medical Library, University of Southern California (USC)–Los Angeles. In this role, she tracks, investigates, and uses data proactively to address emerging trends that improve library services and promote library resources. Wu has extensive experience using various tools to gather and apply user information to make data-driven strategy and planning decisions. Wu leads and partners with librarians from various institutions in conducting a longitudinal national research project on measuring patrons’ technology habits. Her research has resulted in several publications and has made a positive impact on technology implementation in her library. She has taught the MLA course “Library Statistics: Data Analysis for Librarians” twice in the past two years. The classes were well attended and scored very well on evaluations. She is active in both the Medical Library Group of Southern California and Arizona and MLA. She is also a master’s of business administration candidate at the USC Marshall School of Business.
