Many health sciences librarians received little to no formal instruction in project management and leadership skills in library school. This becomes a barrier to working as solo managers and staffers of their own space or as leaders in their larger institutions. Strong leaders need to be able to delegate, manage timelines and expectations, and clearly communicate priorities and expected outcomes. This webinar will give instruction in project management tools and methods, identifying and applying your own leadership style, and effective communication skills both for library staff and library users and stakeholders.

Presenter

Kelly Gonzalez, AHIP currently serves as Assistant Vice President for Library Services of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Health Sciences Digital Library and Learning Center. She has a MSIS degree from the University of North Texas and an MBA in Health Care Management from Saint Leo University. A Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals, Kelly has served MLA in a variety of capacities, serving as Chair of the Oral History Committee (2012-2013), a member of the 2010 National Program Committee, Secretary/Treasurer of the Relevant Issues Section (2012-2014) and Chair-Elect of the Medical Library Education Section.   She has a distinguished career as an educator for MLA’s Rising Stars program as well as for the University of North Texas, the UT Southwestern Medical Center, and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine. She has been a member of the Medical Library Association since 1992.
